Of Mice and Men
                                                                                   Chapter One
 In chapter one Lennie gets yelled at for having a dead mouse in his pocket. George and Lennie are trying to get the ranch that they will be working on,  but when the bus dropped them off a few miles away from the ranch they decided to sleep in the woods for the night and travel to the ranch the next morning. Later that night George sends Lennie to get wood so that they can make a fire to cook their beans to have for dinner.  When Lennie wants ketchup to go with his beans he ask's George over and over for ketchup, George gets mad telling him that there is no ketchup. While eating dinner Lennie tells George that he is sorry about the ketchup thing and tells him that if he had ketchup he would give it all to George. George tells Lennie he forgives him. Then Lennie ask's George to tell him all about the farm they want,  George tells him how they are gonna get a farm and that Lennie is going to tend to the rabbits which makes Lennie extremely happy. Then George tells Lennie to hide in the bushes just in case he ever gets in trouble like he did back in weeds. George told Lennie that if he got in  to trouble to stay put and that he will always come for him.

                                                                                     Chapter two
 In chapter two the men George and Lennie arrive at the ranch and one of the workers named Candy showed the men the bunkhouse where they will be staying and he showed them where to put there bags. George gets mad because he see's a can of lice spray near his bunk but Candy says that his bed it clean and not to worry. The boss walks into the bunkhouse  and introduces himself to the men. George has to explain to the boss that Lennie is slow because he was kicked in the head when hes was young child.  George lies, telling him that Lennie is his cousins and that Lennie is a very good worker and that he will not regret having him work for him.  Curley the boss's son walks in  and already does not like Lennie and starts to yell at him. Candy explains to George that he doesn't like big guys and that he will pick a fight with any huge man. Candy opens up to George about Curley and about his wife and how she has "the eye'' and how she gives it to all the men on the ranch and that Curley doesnt know. He tells George how they are constantly looking for each other all the time. Carlson and Slim walk into the bunkhouse. They are both workers on the ranch as well. Carlson tells Candy that he should take one of the puppies in the barn and kill his old dog,  Candy refuses to. Then Curley returns looking from something.
 

                                                                                     Chapter three
In chapter three George and Lennie meet another worker names Slim. Slim has a bunch of puppies in the barn so Lennie gets to go into the barn to play and pet the puppies and George tells Slim all about Lennie and how he was raised buy his aunt Clara.  When she died he took care of him and George tells him what had happened back in weeds. Lennie touched a womens red dress and and how she freaked out and how George and Lennie had to hide in a ditch so they men couldn't find them. The men hear Curly, who is the boss's son yelling outside the stables looking for his wife. George tells Lennie to stay away from Curley because any guy who doesn't like big men is surly not gonna like him. Carlson tells Candy that he needs to kill his dog because the dog is very old and blind and stinks. Candy tells him he doesn't want to do that because the dog has been very good and that he has had the dog since he was a puppy but Carlson convinces him to let him shoot the dog in the head saying that he wont even see it coming, sadly Candy lets Carlson do it. Candy sits on the bunk and remains quite when he hears Lennie talking about the farm to George and Candy pops up telling the men that he has some money from the accident  of his hand and ask's George if he can come with them and live on the farm and pay for half the farm and agreeing  to help around the farm. George agrees to let Candy come with them. George is happy because with Candy's money and the money that him and Lennie will be earning they will be able to get the farm in a month. Curley and Slim and few other men walk in the bunkhouse. Curley and Slim are fighting and the men start bashing Curley's wife. Then Curley starts to pick a fight with Lennie and swings a few punches at Lennie causing his face to bleed. George yells telling Lennie to fight back. Lennie fights back by breaking Curley's hand and crushing it. Slim tells Curley that if he doesn't want the guys to make fun of him to tell anyone that ask's about his hand to say he got it stuck in a machine. Curley agrees to tell anyone that he got it stuck in a machine. Then Curley walks to the hospital.
        

                                                                                        Chapter four


In chapter four Lennie walks into Crooks room another worker  on the ranch. Crooks tells Lennie to leave because he has no right to be his room. Lennie tells him that he is all alone and how  everyone went into town. Crooks told Lennie how George is going to leave him and never going to come back. Then Candy comes in looking  for Lennie and Crooks let Candy come in  to talk. Curley's wife walks in saying shes looking for Curley. Crooks and Candy try to make her leave telling her she is no good and that shes is not wanted. Then she ask's the boys what happened to Curley's hand and Candy tells her that it got stuck in a machine but she doesn't believe him. She gets mad at the lie Candy tells her. Curley's wife starts talking to Lennie when Candy tells her that he and George dont want her messing with him. Crooks tells her to get out when she lashes out  at him telling him that she can get him into a lot of trouble. Candy hears noises then Curley's wife leaves and Candy says Curley will find her.  George walked in the room looking for Lennie and gives him a mean look for being in Crooks room. Candy starts to talk to George about the farm they are going to get and George gets mad at Candy for blurting out their plains for buying the farm in front of Crooks when he told Candy not to tell anyone.

                                                                                         Chapter five

In chapter five the men are out side having a horse shoe tournament and Lennie sat in the barn petting the puppy that he accidentally killed and he started to freak out because of what George would say if he found out and how he would not let him tend to the rabbits. Then Curely's wife walks in the barn and Lennie hides the dead puppy under some hay. Curley's wife ask's Lennie what he is hiding so Lennie tells her that he accidentally killed the puppy, she tells Lennie not to worry about it and that everything is going to be alright. Then she ask's him what really happened to Curley's hand but Lennie tells her it got stuck in a machine. She tells him she knows he is lying but she goes on telling Lennie how lonely she is and how she wants someone to talk to. Lennie tells her all about the house on the farm and how he is going to tend to the rabbits and she ask's him why he loves rabbits so much and he tells her he likes them because they are soft  and how he loves to touch soft things. She offers to let him touch her soft hair. Lennie is stroking her soft hair and she tells him enough and that hes going to mess it up, she starts to yell and he freaks out and starts holding on to her hair then he quickly cuffs her mouth to keep her hushed but accidentally snaps her neck. Lennie realizes she's dead and levaes her in the barn laying in the hay. Lennie remembers what George told him to go hide in the bushes if he were to ever get into trouble so Lennie goes and hides in the Bushes near the pool of water. Lennie and his dead puppy go and hide and wait for George to come and find them.

                                                                                Chapter six


In chapter six Lennie and his dead puppy wait for George to come. While sitting by the river by himself Lennie starts to hallucinate  and a large women appears  wearing thick glasses and a apron. Lennie realizes that is his aunt Clara. Shes gets mad a Lennie for not listing to George like she had told him to. Then aunt Clara tells him how much better George's life would be if Lennie was not in it. Lennie tells her that he will go off and live in a cave but she tells him that she knows he wont do it. Lennie says that he should forget about getting to tend  to the rabbits , his aunt Clara disappeared and then a large rabbit appeared and started telling Lennie that George will never come back for him and that he is going to leave him without a doubt . Lennie tells the rabbit that he knows George would never do that to him and that he will come back for him. Then George comes to the bush and he ask's Lennie why he was crying,  Lennie ask's him if he is going to leave and George tells Lennie no hes not leaving. In the distances George can hear the sound of men talking. George tells Lennie he is not going to yell at him  for what he did. Then George tells Lennie to look across the river and to picture the farm house and George takes out Carlson's luger and takes the safety cap and tells Lennie to describe the farm. George takes the gun and places it right behind Lennies head and pulls away nervously and then places it back behind his head and then pulls the trigger killing Lennie. Curley, Carlson and Slim walk over to Geroge and Slim tells George that "he hadda''. Then George and Slim walk down the path near the highway and Carlson turns to Curley and says to him, "now what the heck y'a  suppose is eatin them two guys"?
